Description

Ultimaker PVA: water-soluble support material

Ultimaker PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) is a high-quality water-soluble support material designed specifically for use with dual-extrusion 3D printers. Thanks to its excellent thermal stability, PVA is ideal for printing complex designs with significant overhangs, intricate internal cavities, or delicate geometries that require reliable support during the build process.

PVA dissolves completely in water, ensuring a smooth surface finish without the need for manual support removal, which could damage the primary part. It bonds excellently to common build materials and is fully integrated into the Ultimaker ecosystem with preconfigured profiles in Cura for reliable, first-time-right results.

Key benefits:

  • Superior adhesion: Bonds reliably to PLA, Tough PLA, CPE, and Nylon.
  • Safe and easy disposal: The non-toxic formula dissolves in regular tap water and can be safely disposed of down a standard drain.
  • Eco-friendly: 100% biodegradable with no hazardous by-products.
  • Enhanced stability: Superior thermal stability provides better degradation resistance compared to standard PVA filaments.
  • Lower maintenance: Specially formulated for reduced moisture absorption compared to other PVA types, though proper storage is still recommended.

Applications:

Ideal for parts with complex geometries, internal mechanical cavities, concept models, and sacrificial moulds.

Note: This PVA material is designed to be printed using an Ultimaker BB print core.

How to remove Ultimaker PVA supports:

  1. Immerse: Place your 3D print in a container of water. Using warm water can accelerate the dissolution process, but ensure the temperature does not exceed the heat deflection temperature of your primary material.
  2. Rinse: Once the PVA has completely dissolved, rinse the 3D print thoroughly with fresh water to remove any remaining residue.
  3. Dry: Allow the part to dry completely before any further post-processing or assembly.
