Ultimaker cleaning filament is a specialised material designed to quickly and efficiently remove carbonised plastic and debris from the internal geometry of your print cores. Regular use helps maintain consistent extrusion, prevents underextrusion issues, and extends the lifespan of your hardware.

Whether you are performing routine maintenance or resolving a stubborn blockage, this filament is an effective tool for keeping your Ultimaker 3D printer running at peak performance.

When to use cleaning filament:

• Preventative maintenance: It is recommended to clean your print cores at least once every three months, or more frequently if you regularly switch between materials with significantly different printing temperatures (for example, switching from PC to PLA).
• Unclogging: Use cleaning filament if you notice a complete lack of extrusion or inconsistent material flow during printing.
• Material changes: Use it when switching from a high-temperature material to a lower-temperature one to ensure no residual plastic remains in the nozzle that could cause future blockages.

How to use cleaning filament:

The cleaning filament is designed for use with two common techniques often referred to as the "atomic method":

• Hot pull: Performed at the material’s printing temperature to remove the majority of blockages or abrasive residues.
• Cold pull: Performed while the nozzle cools. The filament grips smaller particles and carbonised debris, pulling them out as it is removed from the print core.
