By lifting the material off the solid base, the honeycomb geometry allows for optimal airflow, which helps to dissipate heat and extract smoke from beneath the workpiece. This reduces the risk of "flashback" marks on the underside of materials and prevents small cut-out pieces from falling into the machine base.
