Description

Formlabs Silicone 40A Resin (Form 4) 1 L

Silicone 40A Resin is the first accessible 100% silicone 3D printing material, powered by Formlabs' patent-pending Pure Silicone Technology™. It allows you to eliminate expensive moulds and labour-intensive casting processes by printing pure silicone parts in-house in a matter of hours. This material combines the high performance of traditional cast silicone with the design freedom of SLA 3D printing.

This 1-litre cartridge is optimised for the Form 4 ecosystem, providing a high-performance solution for functional prototyping and custom low-volume manufacturing. With a 40A Shore durometer, it produces soft, pliable, and durable parts capable of withstanding repeated cycles of stretching, flexing, and compression.

Why choose Silicone 40A Resin?

Silicone 40A Resin is a pure silicone, without added monomers or acrylates, enabled by Formlabs’ new patent-pending Pure Silicone Technology™. It combines the superior material properties of cast silicone with the benefits of 3D printing.

  • Pure silicone technology: a 100% silicone material without added monomers or acrylates, providing authentic silicone properties.
  • Outstanding elastomeric performance: features 230% elongation at break and 12 kN/m tear strength for superior durability.
  • Thermal and chemical resistance: stable performance across temperatures from -25°C to 125°C and excellent resistance to various chemicals.
  • Design freedom: create complex geometries and fine features as small as 0.3 mm that are impossible to achieve with traditional moulding.
  • Cost-effective production: bypass tooling and casting stages for faster rapid prototyping and custom manufacturing.

Applications for Silicone 40A Resin:

Silicone 40A Resin is a cost and time-effective solution for fabricating functional prototypes, validation units, tooling, and small batches of silicone parts. Parts are soft and durable, making them ideal for various industrial and consumer sectors.

  • Industrial and automotive: seals, gaskets, grommets, connectors, and vibration dampeners.
  • Consumer goods: wearables, ergonomic handles, grippers, and skin-contact components.
  • Healthcare and medical: customised prosthetics, orthotics, audiology models, and non-implantable medical devices.
  • Manufacturing aids: flexible fixtures, masking tools, and soft moulds for casting other resins.

Post-processing

Washing

The foundational step in any SLA post-processing workflow is to remove any excess resin on the surface of the parts through an alcohol or ether wash.

Curing

Post-curing engineering and specialty resins is essential for parts to achieve their full strength and functionality. This step completes the chemical reaction initiated during printing, transforming the part from its green state into a fully finished component.

Note: Only compatible with the Formlabs Form 4 series resin printer.
