Capacitive Sensor Assembly for Ultimaker S-Series

The Capacitive Sensor Assembly is a critical component of the Ultimaker S3 and S5 print head, responsible for the Active Levelling process. It measures the distance between the nozzles and the build plate with micrometre precision, automatically compensating for slight tilt or surface inconsistencies. A fully functional sensor assembly ensures a perfect, consistent first layer every time you print.

This complete replacement kit is ideal for resolving issues related to failed active levelling, "Sensor Error" messages, or damage to the front fan bracket and sensor wiring.

Included in this assembly:

  • 1x Capacitive Sensor Board (2015): Processes proximity signals and acts as the electronic heart of the levelling system.
  • 1x Capacitive Sensor Cable (2014): Shielded cable connecting the sensor board to the print head's main PCB.
  • 1x Front Fan Bracket S_R2 (203637): Revision 2 bracket housing the front fan and providing the mounting point for the sensor.
  • 1x Heat Shrink (2512) & 1x Heat Shrink Printhead Bracket Cover (225023): Insulation and protective sleeves for electrical stability and protection against heat creep.

Technical tip:

The capacitive sensor is highly sensitive to electrical interference and moisture. During installation, ensure the sensor cable is routed correctly and heat shrink is applied properly to avoid "noise" in levelling data. After installation, perform a full XY calibration and a manual levelling check to ensure the system is perfectly synchronised.
